Immersive guided experiences in our working Scottish mills
We have been experts in the world’s finest fibres for over 225 years, crafting exquisite luxury products in our own Scottish mills. We now invite you to join us in an ASVA 5-Star immersive experience at our Elgin mill, where our family business has worked with natural, renewable, biodegradable fibres since 1797. We are proudly B Corp certified, which means we’re part of a global community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact. Becoming a B Corp reinforces the community purpose that has been a feature of our company for generations.
You can witness the techniques our skilled craftspeople have passed down through generations to make our luxurious Cashmere and Merino Wool products and learn about our rich Scottish heritage. At our Elgin site, the only vertical weaving mill in Scotland, you can experience some of the thirty processes involved in crafting a single scarf and learn more about the families that have shaped our business over the decades. From exploring behind the scenes of our working mill to an in-depth heritage experience and personal shopping, there is something for everyone at Johnstons of Elgin.

The Discovery Experience

The Craftsmanship Experience

Discover the magic that happens behind the scenes in our weaving mill, where we preserve traditional processes. Get up close and personal with our world renowned craftsmanship and witness the incredible attention to detail that sets us apart.
You will have exclusive access to all areas of our mill and discover more about the history of our iconic Scottish Estate Tweeds.
This experience includes an optional shopping consultation with a member of our retail team. We can accommodate groups of up to eight on the Craftsmanship Experience.

The Bespoke Archive Experience

This exclusive experience includes a glass of bubbles on arrival and VIP access to our on-site Archive Room. Here, you will explore our rich history spanning over 225 years, with details of key individuals and how they shaped our business. You will leave with a personalised Johnstons of Elgin Cashmere Scarf embroidered with your initials.
This experience can be entirely bespoke, and timings can be flexible.

The Woven Spirit Experience

Step into a remarkable collaboration between Johnstons of Elgin and Gordon & MacPhail, brought together through a shared family heritage. The Woven Spirit Experience invites you to explore the stories, craft, and traditions that have shaped two iconic Scottish companies. Your journey begins with VIP access to our working mill, where you will be guided behind the scenes to witness the skill and care that go into creating our textiles. You will then be welcomed into our Archive Room for an intimate look at 228 years of history and the remarkable individuals who helped build our legacy.
Between experiences, you will be invited to enjoy a curated selection of seasonal Scottish food and refreshments, showcasing the finest local produce and offering a moment to savour the flavours of Speyside before continuing your journey through our shared heritage.
Following your time at the mill, you will join Gordon & MacPhail in our private Reading Room, for a rare whisky tasting that reflects more than a century of dedication to patient maturation. You will savour a selection of exclusive whiskies, each aged for a minimum of 20 years, and each representing a chapter of Scotland’s liquid history.
To make your visit truly unforgettable, you will leave with a personalised Johnstons of Elgin cashmere scarf, embroidered with your initials.

The Bespoke Johnstons of Elgin Experience
For private guests, our mill experiences extend far beyond the mill itself. Each visit can be carefully curated by our Guest Experience team, creating a seamless and deeply personal journey shaped around individual interests.
From private mill tours to time spent with our makers, archive access and personal shopping appointments, every element can be arranged in advance. Visits can be complemented by private hospitality within Elgin’s Reading Room, exclusive whisky tastings in partnership with Gordon and MacPhail, or bespoke dining experiences designed to complete the day.
The result is not simply a tour, but a considered Scottish experience, personal in pace, immersive in character and entirely unique to each guest.

Goat to Garment Experience
Few are able to experience cashmere in its entirety. From the quiet origin of the fibre on a remote Scottish farm to its transformation within the mills of Johnstons of Elgin. Along the way, guests encounter the materials, processes and people that define the craft, gaining a level of access and understanding rarely offered. It is an experience shaped by knowledge, care and a shared respect for making.
Across two days, guests move between landscape and making, guided by those who shape both. From the coastal stillness of Angus to the rhythm of the mill in Elgin, the journey offers a rare perspective on a craft refined over generations.

Enjoy a traditional Afternoon Tea in our Coffee Shop to extend your Discovery Experience. Our friendly staff will serve a selection of homemade savoury and sweet treats with speciality tea or coffee.
